Mary E. King, PhD, has a unique combination of clinical expertise and solid business experience that sets her apart in the field of medical communications.
A specialist in writing for MD and PhD audiences and technically-trained sales forces, Dr. King has extensive experience in preparing continuing medical education (CME) materials, monographs, clinical reports, FDA submissions, and corporate workshops. She works with clients around the country from her offices in Boulder, Colorado, taking advantage of today's electronic communications.
Dr. King is Past President of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) and has received awards for customer focus and technical writing.
Dr. King also writes for multimedia and the Web. She consults and offers courses in this area. "These are important new tools for updating your sales force or the medical community. However, creating great content for electronic media differs from traditional writing for paper media. Effective, immediate electronic communication requires us to understand both the medium and the user."
A former clinical scientist in technical marketing at a Fortune 500 medical devices company, Dr. King designed and led clinical trials, served on several product launch teams, presented seminars for physicians and other clinical staff, worked with the sales force, and prepared technical communications.
"My business background sets me apart from other medical writers," states Dr. King. "I understand the stresses of product launch, the novel uses of technical communications to market new products, and the needs of a technically-trained sales force."
Dr. King began her career as a professor of pathology and associate director of clinical laboratories for a medical college. She also presented seminars to clinical staff; developed new courses and seminars for medical residents, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students; created and taught CME; published research articles and book chapters; and performed research in the field of cholesterol and lipoproteins.
"My experience in the hospital environment and my clinical training gave me a broad clinical background, which is extremely useful to me as a writer," continues Dr. King. "I can absorb new material quickly, communicate the key ideas crisply and clearly, and provide my clients with high-level writing for MD and PhD audiences."
